How to fix incorrect Microsoft Copilot answers about your business
How to fix incorrect Microsoft Copilot answers about your business: you cannot edit Copilot, and we found no Microsoft form that lets a company correct an answer. Copilot builds its answer from pages it finds on Bing. So find the page that holds the wrong fact, fix that page, tell Bing, and ask Copilot again.
Key takeaways
- Copilot fetches web facts from the Bing search service, so a wrong answer usually traces to a page Bing returns.[1]
- Copilot Chat shows the exact search queries it sent to Bing, for 24 hours. Search them on Bing to find the bad page.[1]
- In one Ahrefs test, Copilot never used the official FAQ as the true source and blended fake pages into confident answers.[2]

Why does Copilot say wrong things about my business?#
Because of the pages it reads. Microsoft says that when web search is on, Copilot turns your question into a few search words and sends them to the Bing search service. It then writes the answer from what comes back.[1] If Bing returns an old pricing page, a wrong directory listing or a made up story, Copilot can repeat it.
Ahrefs tested this with an invented company. It put an official FAQ with clear denials on the brand site, then added three fake pages with specific made up facts. Copilot never used the FAQ as the true source, and it blended all the sources into confident fiction.[2] Specific claims beat vague ones: the FAQ said the firm does not publish unit counts, and the fake pages gave numbers.[2]The test used one fake brand in late 2025, so treat it as a warning, not a measurement of today's Copilot.

How do you fix incorrect Copilot answers about your business?#
1. Record the wrong answer
Save the exact question, the answer and the date. Ask the same question at least five times, because AI answers change from run to run. Note which wrong facts repeat.
2. Find the search Copilot sent to Bing
In Microsoft Copilot Chat, the linked citation section shows the exact web search queries Copilot sent to Bing. They are kept in the chat thread for 24 hours.[1] Copy them before they disappear. They are not available inside Word or PowerPoint.[1]
3. Search those words on Bing and open the results
Run each query on Bing. Open the top results and look for the wrong fact. It is often an old page of yours, a directory, a review site or a news piece.
4. Fix the page, with specific facts
On your own pages, replace vague text with exact facts: what you sell, price, location, year founded, who it is for. Vague pages lose to specific ones.[2] On other sites, ask the owner to edit the page. Do not repeat the false claim in your own text.
5. Tell Bing, then test again
Microsoft says accurate and up to date content matters for inclusion in AI answers, and it recommends IndexNow to tell search engines about changes.[3] Verify your site in Bing Webmaster Tools and check the AI Performance report, which shows which of your pages are cited in Copilot. Microsoft says it is a sample, not every citation.[3] Then repeat step 1. Microsoft gives no timeline for when answers change.

FAQ
- How do I fix incorrect Microsoft Copilot answers about my business?
- Find the Bing search Copilot used (Copilot Chat shows it for 24 hours), open the results, fix the page that holds the wrong fact, notify Bing with IndexNow, and ask Copilot the same question again several times. You cannot edit the answer itself.
- Can I ask Microsoft to correct what Copilot says about my company?
- We searched Microsoft's documentation on 18 October 2026 and found no process for a company to request a correction. That is not proof none exists, so check Microsoft's support site. The route that is documented is fixing the sources Copilot reads.
- What should I do when Copilot gives wrong information about my SaaS company?
- Check old pricing pages, feature lists, review site profiles and directory listings first. Those are the pages that go stale. Update each one with current, specific facts.
- How long until Copilot changes its answer?
- Microsoft publishes no timeline. Fix the page, notify Bing, and re-test every few days while you record each result.
- Is this the same for ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude?
- The fix is similar, but each engine reads different sources. In the Ahrefs test, Claude refused to invent facts and also never used the official FAQ, while ChatGPT used it often. Test each engine on its own.

Claims about Copilot quote Microsoft Learn and the Bing Webmaster Blog, read on 18 October 2026. We found no Microsoft page describing a correction request for a company, which shows we did not find one, not that none exists. The Ahrefs test used one invented brand and eight AI products in late 2025. We have not run our own Copilot test for this post.
